CarMax May Have Illegally Sold You a Car

NOTE: WE ARE NOT CARMAX. We are attorneys who sue CarMax regularly. We are not affiliated with CarMax in any way.

CarMax advertises that its vehicles are "CarMax Certified."

  • One California judge has already ruled that CarMax's "Certified Quality Inspection" and certification process violates the law, and ordered them to change their illegal practices. California Superior Court Judge J. Richard Couzens, in the matter of Menefee v. Mecedes-Benz USA, LLC et al., found that CarMax Auto Superstores California, LLC violated Civil Code Section 1770(a) and Vehicle Code Section 11713.18(a)(6) by using a “generic” certification form rather than a “meaningful ‘report’ of the components inspected.” CarMax has appealed the decision.
  • If you purchased a vehicle from Carmax and received a "CQI CarMax Certified Quality Inspection" document that displays a certification such as the one below, your vehicle purchase may be illegal.
